The five bands

Each biome has its own ore, its own monster palette, and its own reason to visit. Gaps between bands (floors 20, 40, 60, 80) are transition floors.

The elevator is the whole progression system

An elevator connects every fifth floor — 5, 10, 15, 20 and so on — to the ground floor, once you have reached that floor at least once. Elevator floors use a set layout, although the rocks and monsters on them still vary. Practical consequence: your goal on any given run is to reach the next multiple of five, not to survive as deep as possible.

Special floors you will meet

Not every floor is a plain fight-and-descend layout, and recognising the exceptions saves a lot of wandering.

Floor typeWhat it does
Fountain floorsRestore 20 health and 20 stamina
Treasure roomsSpawn extra ore and chests; opened by the Treasure Hunter perk
Ritual chambersContain urns with cosmetics and artifacts; opened by the Lost to History perk
Locked ladder floorsRequire a lever to be activated before you can descend
WhirlpoolsTransport you between linked locations

All biomes share a base drop set

Every biome contains plain rocks that drop stone, peat, sod and clay, so you are never mining purely for the biome ore. Monsters can also drop pet skins and hats across all five bands.

05

The mines are also how you unlock magic

Every spell in the game is gated on mine depth. Caldarus grants your first spell at Floor 10, and each new biome unlocks another — Summon Rain at the Tide Caverns, Growth at the Deep Earth, Dragon’s Breath at the Lava Caves, and the last two from the Priestess in the Ancient Ruins. If magic is what you want, descending is the only route to it.

06

What to bring

Food, empty inventory space, and armour appropriate to the band. Fainting is not catastrophic — you keep your items and Tesserae — but the day ends immediately, which is the real cost.
